Reference project: PIRA (Planetary Into-the-ground-penetration Radar and Altimeter)

Investigation of planetary surface

Wide Band Radar at low frequencies (10MHz).

Customer: ESA (European Space Agency)

PIRA means „Planetary Into the Ground Radar and Altimeter“.

After successful development of the GPR Technology in the GINGER Project and the STOP of the Planetary Rover program RST received a contract on development of the Stepped Frequency Technology for planetary orbiters. RST developed a satellite antenna system for frequencies below 10MHz and tested this big structure on a Crane. Additionally RST built a scaled version of the system and tested this from a helicopter. All these tests were successful.
